No matter how you feel about Apple and the iPhone, it’s impossible to deny that the device completely revolutionized the mobile industry when it was launched in 2007. Without it, the smartphones of today may have been completely different.

Take Android, for example. It’s the biggest competitor to the iOS operating system that powers the iPhone, and it’s now the world’s largest mobile platform — but the iPhone is the reason Android is what it is today. Google started work on the software way back in 2005, but it scrapped everything and started again the day after iPhone was revealed to the world.

BlackBerry has struck a deal with LG that will see BBM pre-installed on its future Android-powered smartphones. The G Pro Lite, which offers an “optimized BBM experience” and will go on sale “soon” in markets around the world, will be the first device with BBM out-of-the-box.

As BlackBerry fights to get its new platform off the ground and save its smartphone business, Samsung — along with other smartphone makers — has been quick to take advantage of its struggle.

The South Korean company has reportedly expanded its enterprise business and struck a deal to make custom smartphones for the likes of Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Officials say that it is actively targeting “top-tier marketing-driven firms” which it believes may benefit from its smartphone solutions.

BBM Channels, the latest addition to BlackBerry’s popular messaging platform, which made its public debut earlier today after more than six months in beta, is coming to Android and iOS “in the coming months.”

BlackBerry has today announced that its new BBM app for Android is set to come pre-installed on “a variety of Android-based smartphones from leading OEMs.” The popular messaging service will be baked into devices sold across Africa, India, Indonesia, Latin America, and the Middle East starting next month.
