Can Samsung save BlackBerry?

A recent report claimed BlackBerry will turn to Android to save itself from extinction, and now it seems the Canadian company could be teaming up with Samsung to make that happen. It’s thought the pair are working on a new smartphone powered by Lollipop that will be secured by BlackBerry services.

BlackBerry could finally turn to Android in an attempt to save itself having failed to gain any traction with its BlackBerry 10 platform over the past two years.

A new report claims the Canadian company is working on a new “slider” device with a retractable physical keyboard.

BBM-Channels

BlackBerry finally gave in and brought its famous BBM messaging service to Android and iOS last year, but it wanted to remind us that it still had a smartphone platform of its own by giving its apps a nasty BlackBerry 10 style user interface. Upcoming BBM updates will change that, however, with a new makeover that brings a more native user experience.

Amazon-Appstore

BlackBerry has today announced that it is teaming up with Amazon to bring Android apps and other content to BlackBerry 10. The licensing deal will see the Amazon Appstore pre-installed with the BB 10.3 update coming this fall, making 200,000 Android apps readily available to BlackBerry users.

BlackBerry also confirmed it will be closing its own music and video stores this July.

BlackBerry-Z30

BlackBerry’s chance at clawing back smartphone share and mounting any kind of a threat against Android and iOS looks slimmer every time the company announces its sales figures. It seems increasingly likely the Canadian company will eventually have to sell off its smartphone business or turn to Android in an effort to survive.

But despite what you may think, the BlackBerry 10 operating system isn’t a complete write-off. In fact, there are lots things it does incredibly well. Having used it myself for quite a bit over the past 12 months, I’ve compiled a list of five features that I think Google should steal for Android.
