Although Samsung’s commercials often mock Apple and its devices, the South Korean company has been known to use Apple products as its inspiration. In fact, it has been so inspired by iOS devices in the past that it was recently found guilty of ripping them off and forced to cough up $119 million in damages.

That doesn’t appear to have deterred Samsung from copying again, though. Leaked images of its upcoming Galaxy Alpha smartphone suggest the device could be the company’s biggest iPhone knockoff to date.

Xiaomi has been in the news for all the right and the wrong reasons lately. The company recently expanded its operations to India and unveiled its latest flagship handset — the Mi 4. However, for a company this big, Xiaomi has little presence outside of Asia, which has led many people to dismiss it as just another Chinese OEM.

Samsung has confirmed that it will launch a smartphone made from “new materials” within the next six months to counter increased competition. The announcement comes a day after sources revealed Samsung’s plan to launch the Galaxy Alpha, a device made out of metal, just next week.

While Apple will likely be credited for making sapphire smartphone displays popular with the iPhone 6 later this year, it certainly isn’t the first cellphone maker to have used these super sturdy screens. In fact, we could just see a sapphire-screened smartphone from Kyocera before the next iPhone makes its debut.

The leaked image above shows the new Kyocera Brigadier, a new handset that’s said to be en route to Verizon.

Apple filed a motion with the U.S. Court of Appeals yesterday, dropping its cross-appeal of Judge Lucy Koh’s verdict in its lawsuit against Samsung, and officially ending Apple’s pursuit of a product ban for the rival company.
