Google has reportedly dropped plans to launch a physical Google Wallet card at Google I/O next week. Sources for AllThingsD say that Google initially announced the card in an internal memo that also included the news that Google Wallet head Osama Bedier was leaving the company.

Google Babel, the new communication service from Google, has been renamed Google Hangouts ahead of its public debut at Google I/O next week, according to an unnamed Google employee. Babel had been its name internally throughout the service’s development, but that moniker has now been dropped by Google.

We’re now just six days away from Google I/O, and in preparation for the event, Google has updated its official Google I/O app for Android. Aimed at both those attending the conference and those keeping up from home, the app now offers maps with session information, HDMI video output for live streams, Google+ login support, and more.

Google traditionally holds two keynotes during its annual Google I/O events — one for Android and the other for Chrome, its two main ecosystems. But during this month’s event, the company has just one scheduled.

The three-hour morning session will be held on Wednesday, May 15, and it has sparked speculation yet again that Google could be set to combine Android and Chrome into one platform.
