The Android 4.4.2 Google Play Edition ROM powering the Sony Xperia Z Ultra — which was released just a couple weeks ago — has been ported to the Xperia Z1. The ROM provides users with a stock Android experience, free from Sony’s own user interface tweaks — but it’s not completely stable just yet.

HTC is in the process of distributing a rather unexpected over-the-air update to all unlocked Butterfly S handsets currently located in Hong Kong. The upgrade brings the latest build of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Sense 5.5 to the handset, effectively turning the device into a mid-range version of the OEM’s flagship HTC One, complete with all the bells and whistles you’d expect, including BlinkFeed, Video Highlights, and Notification Toggles.

When your smartphone’s biggest selling point is its customization options, you need to get a little creative with your print ads. And that’s exactly what Motorola has done for the Moto X. In the January edition of Wired magazine, the company has a full-page ad with built-in LED lights that allows you to change the color of the Moto X printed on the page.

Oppo’s flagship N1 smartphone went on sale globally for the first time on December 10, but the version everybody wants — that’s the one that comes with CyanogenMod 10.2 pre-installed — wasn’t available from day one. Oppo has today announced, however, that it will be available on December 24 — just in time for Christmas.
