The Google Play Edition HTC One has today begun to receive its much-anticipated over-the-air update for Android 4.4 KitKat. It comes just over a month after KitKat made its public debut alongside the Nexus 5.

HTC has today announced a new HTC One variant that gives Android fans with a penchant for gold a nice alternative to the iPhone 5s. The new device is identical to the original on the inside, but its aluminum panels have had a new lick of champaign-colored paint.

Google announced this week Google Play Newsstand, an app for reading non-book content (magazines, newspapers, blogs and more) on an Android phone or tablet.

Google Play Newsstand is an alternative to Flipboard. But Google gives us no strong reason to choose that alternative.

Here are the three things Google needs to change in order to turn Google Play Newsstand from also-ran to awesome sauce.

There aren’t many in-ear monitors made of steel. Aluminum? Yes. Plastic? Wads. But steel-bodied IEMs — now that’s a rare find. Samsung Galaxy S4 users may still be enjoying the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update they recently received, but it won’t be too long before they’re enjoying its successor, Android 4.4 KitKat.

The update is expected to arrive on the Galaxy S4, and the Galaxy Note 3, sometime in January — while Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II users can expect to see it by the end of April.
