Google Play Edition HTC One Now Receiving Android 4.4 KitKat

Android-KitKat-4-4

The Google Play Edition HTC One has today begun to receive its much-anticipated over-the-air update for Android 4.4 KitKat. It comes just over a month after KitKat made its public debut alongside the Nexus 5.

We knew the update was close when HTC made its KitKat source code for the Google Play Edition One available to download earlier today. Now the 320MB release is finally making its way to users.

The update is identical to the Nexus 4’s KitKat release, so it delivers all of the new features you expect from KitKat — except the Nexus 5’s “Google Experience Launcher,” which boasts larger app icons, Google Now on the home screen, and transparent navigation and status bars. However, you can install this launcher manually once you’re running KitKat.

There’s no word on the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4’s KitKat update yet, but Samsung also released its KitKat source code earlier today, so we’re expecting it very soon.
