New KitKat Update On Its Way To Nexus 5

After several weeks of anticipation, Google’s latest Android 4.4.3 update appears to be on its way.

Nexus 5 users on Sprint will soon be receiving a new KitKat update that enables Sprint Spark on two new bands, and delivers “miscellaneous Android updates,” the carrier confirmed today. And since the Sprint Nexus 5 has the same SKU as the unlocked model, those on other networks should be getting it, too.

It’s thought Sprint actually jumped the gun a bit with announcing this update ahead of Google. While we can’t be completely certain this is indeed the Android 4.4.3 release Google insiders have been testing in recent weeks, it’s certainly big enough to warrant a new version number.

In addition, we expect those “miscellaneous Android updates” that Sprint mentions to be the camera bug fixes Google has been promising for the Nexus 5. The search giant first acknowledged this issue, which causes abnormal battery drain, back in early March.

If you have a Nexus 5 — either on Sprint or unlocked — you should receive a notification to say this update is available in due course. You can also search for it manually from within the System Update section in the Settings app. Those on other carriers may have to wait a little longer for it to be approved.
