BlackBerry’s switch to Android may not have done much to boost its smartphone sales so far, but the Canadian company isn’t ready to give up yet.

CEO John Chen has promised that BlackBerry has two mid-range Android devices lined up for 2016 — one of which will feature a physical keyboard like the Priv, while the other will be a full-touch device.

BlackBerry has confirmed that all of the handsets it releases in 2016 will run Android.

The Canadian company has all but given up on its own BlackBerry 10 operating system following the release of Priv, its first Android-powered smartphone, late last year.

A new image of the BlackBerry Venice has revealed the handset’s slide-out physical keyboard for the first time ahead of its official debut. The keyboard will be familiar to long-time BlackBerry fans, but Venice’s new operating system won’t be.

BlackBerry fans who have switched to Android have been waiting for the Canadian company to deliver an Android-powered device with a physical keyboard for years, and now it appears that we could see several of them before the end of 2015.

BlackBerry’s first Android-powered smartphone will be an affordable device aimed at emerging markets, according to a new report. Codenamed “Prague,” the handset is expected to take cues from last year’s budget BlackBerry Z3, and it could go on sale as soon as August.
