If you’re hoping to pick up one of Apple’s new iPhones next Friday, but you need a little cash to put towards it, then it might be worth heading down to your local Walmart with your old smartphone. The retailer is set to launch its own smartphone trade-in program, which will give you between $50 and $300 when you hand over your old device and sign into a new plan.

Motorola Droid X Update

The Droid X was Motorola’s flagship Android smartphone back in the summer of 2010, and many of us have already forgotten about the handset. However, after a year and a half of inactivity, Verizon has officially announced that it has started rolling out a security update for those who are still using this somewhat outdated device.

Verizon has today announced that it has reached a deal to acquire Vodafone’s 45% stake in the company for £130 billion. The buyout consists primarily of cash and stock, and was unanimously approved by the board of directors of both Verizon and Vodafone. It’s expected to be completed in 2014 following regulatory approvals.

Moto X

The new Moto X is expected to join the Nexus 4, the Galaxy S4, and the HTC One on Google Play next month, allowing consumers to buy the device directly from Google. It’s already available from AT&T and Verizon, but according to a leaked screenshot from T-Mobile’s inventory, its model will only be available from Google Play.

Verizon has today begun selling the new Moto X online for $199 with a new two-year contract, just under a week after it made its debut on AT&T. The device is available in black and white with 16GB of storage, but it’s not yet available to purchase in your local Verizon store.
