Judge-Lucy-Koh

In case you’ve missed it, there are currently two cases being heard by US District Judge Lucy Koh in the Apple v Samsung patent legal struggle. The first one, Apple won a $1.05 billion verdict last fall against Samsung, which Judge Koh pulled about $450 million off of, and then ordered a new damages trial. She also rejected Apple’s request for a permanent sales ban. Apple appealed, but we’re waiting for a ruling till September, most likely.

The Samsung Galaxy S IV is expected boast a new “floating touch” technology that will allow users to interact with the display without actually touching it. Samsung already offers a similar feature with its Galaxy Note devices and their accompanying S Pens. But the Galaxy S IV will use your finger, rather than a stylus.

Apple and Samsung are both looking to bring wireless charging to their smartphones this year, following in the footsteps of rivals like Nokia, LG, and HTC. The feature will come to flagship devices, such as the upcoming Galaxy S IV, according to industry sources who have been speaking to DigiTimes.

Google’s Motorola Mobility has begun laying off a further 1,200 staff, according to a company email obtained by The Wall Street Journal. The cut accounts for 10% of the company’s workforce, and comes just seven months after Google laid off 4,000 employees in an effort to increase profitability.

While Samsung may be keeping the Galaxy S IV a closely-guarded secret until its grand unveiling on March 14, that hasn’t stopped a number of screenshots that were supposedly taken on the device itself from being leaked. One of the images reveals the handset’s specifications, which include a 1080p display, and a 13-megapixel camera.

There’s no sign of Samsung’s eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, however.
