Samsung’s issues with the original Snapdragon 810 may have forced Qualcomm to build a brand new processor just for the Galaxy S6.

Sources say the chipmaker is modifying the original design of its latest SoC to secure its place in what will almost certainly be Samsung’s best-selling smartphone to date — and quite possibly the most successful Android-powered device of 2015.

Samsung may have dropped Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 810 chip for the Galaxy S6 due to an alleged overheating issue, but rival smartphone maker LG, which is using the chip in its new G Flex 2, has come out to defend it.

Woo Ram-chan, LG vice president for mobile product planning, says the Snapdragon 810’s performance is “quite satisfactory,” and he doesn’t understand why Samsung has an issue with heat.

At this point we’re expecting a lot of great things from the Galaxy S6 — including stellar specifications and an all-new design. But like any other smartphone, it won’t be perfect. According to a new report, Samsung’s next-generation flagship will drop one of the features that made the Galaxy S5 so great: water-resistance.

Samsung’s flagship Galaxy devices come with Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon chips every year, but the chip maker’s newest offering not be good enough for the Galaxy S6. Sources familiar with Samsung’s plans say that due to overheating issues with the Snapdragon 810, Samsung will use its own Exynos processors instead for this device.

Samsung today added a new smartphone to its midrange Galaxy A series, and it’s by far the best one so far. It’s called the Galaxy A7, and it has a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with full 1o80p resolution, a 64-bit processor, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera.
