Motorola has confirmed that the Moto X will receive an Android L upgrade after the software makes its public debut this fall. The company has been incredibly quick to roll out Android updates for all Moto devices in recent months — much quicker than its competitors — and it has become a major selling point for the latest Motorola smartphones.

A questionable report from China today claims that Motorola has swapped the upcoming Moto 360’s svelte stainless steel body for a cheaper plastic one that makes the device much thicker. No reason is given for the change, which seems highly unlikely at this point given the excitement from consumers for a metal smartwatch.

Motorola has just applied for a trademark on the “Moto Maxx” moniker. Unfortunately, it’s unclear at this stage what the name could to be used for, primarily due to the combination of names from two different ranges of smartphones, but, of course, its certainly got us thinking.

Motorola today announced some top-level management changes, which should help it to continue building on the success of the Moto G and Moto E.

Along with this announcement, the company also revealed that it managed to ship 8.6 million smartphones in Q2 of 2014 — a very impressive number considering the company was nearly on the brink of shutting down once.

LG has already confirmed that it has not been asked to produce a new Nexus smartphone for Google — and that’s because the search giant has teamed up with Motorola instead, according to a new report. Despite selling Motorola to Lenovo last year, Google has reportedly asked the Moto X maker to build a Nexus 6 “phablet” with a much larger display.
