Motorola promises Android L upgrade for the Moto X

Motorola has confirmed that the Moto X will receive an Android L upgrade after the software makes its public debut this fall. The company has been incredibly quick to roll out Android updates for all Moto devices in recent months — much quicker than its competitors — and it has become a major selling point for the latest Motorola smartphones.

Punit Soni, Motorola’s Vice President of Product Management, confirmed the upgrade on Google+ after users asked whether the Moto X was included in the company’s Android L upgrade plans. Soni only gave a simple “yup,” however, so we don’t yet have a timeline for the rollout.

Based on recent Android updates for Moto devices, users won’t have to wait too long. It took just a few weeks for the Moto X, the Moto G, and the Moto E to get Google’s latest Android 4.4.4 update following its release back June, while those with flagship devices from Samsung, LG, Sony, and others are still waiting.

As for the Android 4.4.4 update for the AT&T Moto X, Punit confirmed that Motorola is trying to speed up the release process, suggesting that the delay was actually down to AT&T.
