Nokia has today announced the Lumia 925, a new Windows Phone flagship that will be hoping to steal market share away from Apple and Samsung in 2013. The device boasts an aluminum frame and offers an 8.7-megapixel rear-facing PureView camera — both of which are firsts for Nokia’s Windows Phone devices.

Android doesn’t look like it’s about to lose any of its market share to competing platforms any time soon. During the first quarter of 2013, Google’s platform powered a whipping 59.9% of all smart mobile devices sold as total shipments hit 308.7 million units.

Apple’s iOS, on the other hand, was installed on just 19.3% of devices — despite the success of its iPhones and iPads.

Nokia-no-Android

Although Nokia has built up a pretty strong relationship with Microsoft in recent years, there have always been questions over whether the company might one day try its luck with Android. But despite seeing lackluster success with Windows Phone, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has ruled out any switch to a competing platform.

This weekend, comScore released smartphone manufacturer and operating system data for the first quarter of 2013, in the U.S. market. The figures are very interesting, showing Android continuing to dominate the market with a whopping 52% market share for operating system.

Switch-to-Windows-Phone

Microsoft is desperately trying to persuade Android users to switch to Windows Phone. After airing a new commercial that bashes Samsung Galaxy users earlier this week, the software giant has built a new Android app that wants to make the switch away from Google’s platform a whole lot easier.

Called Switch to Windows Phone, the app scans your Android smartphone to find all the apps you have installed, then makes it super simple to install those apps on your new Windows Phone device — if they’re available there, of course.
