Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek today announced a new high-end system-on-chip that will supercharge future smartphones and tablets. The MT6795 is built upon 64-bit architecture, boasts 8 processing cores clocked at 2.2GHz, and delivers support for 2K displays.

Oppo-R3

After silently unveiling a mini variant of the Find 7 earlier this month, the R6007, Oppo has announced another new smartphone for the Chinese market — the R3.

The company is marketing the handset as the thinnest LTE smartphone on the market, even though it only supports the LTE frequencies used in China. But with a waistline of only 6.3mm, the Oppo R3 truly deserves that title.

Two weeks ago, a well-known leaker announced on his social networking sites that LG’s latest flagship smartphone, the G3, would launch on Verizon in the United States later this year, and earlier today an FCC filing was published confirming that the forthcoming handset is, indeed, compatible with Big Red’s LTE bands.

AT&T has further broadened its horizons by upgrading and expanding its LTE connectivity services to an additional nine new markets. The announcement was made in a sequential series of press releases on the carrier’s website,  where the operator didn’t fail to take the opportunity to remind us that it was named as having the fastest 4G LTE connection in the U.S. throughout the entire year of 2013.

Right in the centre of the smartphone revolution is Qualcomm, whose processors and modems are found inside every major smartphone nowadays. The company has played a major role in making LTE a common feature in today’s smartphones and has constantly pushed the bar forward in mobile performance and battery life.

Qualcomm usually releases two major SoCs in a year, around which most OEMs plan their device launches. This year, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 801 at MWC, a seemingly minor upgrade over its predecessor — the Snapdragon 800. The successor of 801 though, dubbed Snapdragon 805, is slated to be released later this year and promises to push the bar in terms of performance in mobile devices even higher.
