In the latest patent war saga, a Dutch court ruled that Samsung cannot assert 3G patents against Apple products using Qualcomm’s baseband chips — as Samsung has a licensing deal with the U.S. chipmaker — thus denying their bid to ban the sales of the iPhone and iPad in the Netherlands. However, Samsung didn’t consider the ruling a complete loss as the Hague court also ruled that Samsung could seek damages over the use of Intel chips. While Apple doesn’t use Intel chips, this gives Samsung ammunition against those that do.

If you’re into benchmarks, you may be interested in the latest results from the Intel powered Santa Clara set to hit France in June. We’re all curious to see how Intel’s new Medfield chips perform and whether or not they will shake up the mobile market as they claim they will. A German blogger recently took the Santa Clara for a spin through Rightware and Vellamo, both of which are browser benchmark tools. Rightware tests the browser’s performance in JavaScript and HTML rendering. The Intel chip performed quite nicely, scoring a 89180 which is slightly better than the iPhone 4S (87801) but still well under the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (98272).

The guys over at pocketnow.com got a hold of some renders showing what could possibly be Motorola’s first Intel powered smartphone and it’s running Android 4.0. Although there’s no way of telling whether or not the Medfield chip will actually be powering this device, or if the device will even look like this, we’re supposed to get a look at it this month at Mobile World Congress.

All eyes were on Intel today, and they made a few surprising announcements during their keynote. First off, Intel has announced the first Intel powered smartphone, and the honor (or embarrassment) goes to Lenovo. The Lenovo K800 will be the first Android smartphone to carry the new Intel Atom Z2460 processor as well as a 4.5″ 720p HD display, dual cameras, and Intel wireless display technology. Not much more is known about the device other than the fact that it will be headed to China first. The other big announcement came with a guest appearance by Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha.

CES will bring out all the big players in the mobile processor game, each ready to flaunt the power, speed, and overall performance of their mobile processing chips. We’re going to give you a look at a few of the major players and what they plan to bring to the CES table. This year’s buzz word should be “quad-core,” and we’re hoping to see plenty of it (hopefully on phones).
