The Sony Tablet S could soon have a successor.

Sony unveiled the Xperia Z, its new flagship smartphone, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, and it looks like the Japanese company is planning a new tablet to go with it. Leaked specifications for the Xperia Tablet Z has surfaced online, revealing a 10.1-inch display, LTE connectivity, and a speedy quad-core processor.

Amidst rumors of a mysterious smartphone and new iPad apps, Facebook held a big press event today at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California. The topic was search, or more specifically, social search. It’s a new feature Facebook is calling “Graph Search,” and the beta has started rolling out already. It will be available for all of Facebook’s one billion users soon.

Think of Graph Search as Google with a more personal touch. Facebook is leveraging everything it knows about you to help you connect with people who like what you like. Instead of leaving Facebook.com to get your results, all of your social data and timeline history is mined and collated inside Facebook’s walls. That’s good news for Facebook, and bad news for Google.

Developers can now respond to app reviews directly from within the Google Play app on their Android-powered devices. The feature has been available to top app developers via the Google Play website for some time, but now it’s much easier to for them to take advantage of the feature from their smartphones and tablets.

Google has filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission to drop a patent complaint against Microsoft that sought to prevent the company from using video compression technology on its popular Xbox 360 console. The move follows an antitrust settlement Google made with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission earlier this month, which said the company must license patents used in standards to other parties.

Nuance-ZTE

During the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, ZTE announced a brand new partnership with Nuance that will bring the company’s famous voice recognition software to ZTE’s upcoming smartphone family. The first devices to offer voice interaction will be launching this year, with support for more than 25 different languages and a new “Car Mode” app designed for use behind the wheel.
