For a long time after its launch, the iPad was by far the best-selling tablet on the market, and no matter how hard they tried, rival devices didn’t stand a chance of stealing its market share. But that’s all changed, according to the latest figures from IDC.

Android-powered slates saw a staggering 163% increase in the last year, and they’ve now overtaken the iPad and opened up a rather large gap in market share.

Google’s second-generation Nexus 7 could be just weeks away with supply chain sources claiming it’ll launch in late July or early August. Like the current Nexus 7, the new model will reportedly be built by Asus, and it’ll feature much-improved specifications, including a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a Snapdragon 600 processor.

Android-based computers haven’t really taken off yet, but Acer is the latest computer manufacturer trying to make that happen. The company has today unveiled its new $400 all-in-one (AIO) PC powered by Android Jelly Bean.

Acer will launch a second-generation Iconia B1 tablet this June, just five months after it announced the original, according to sources in the company’s supply chain. The Taiwanese company had originally planned to launch the device towards the end of 2013, but has moved its launch forward several months.

Acer is also said to be planning a new 10-inch entry-level tablet for this summer.

Google has developed its first touchscreen Chromebooks that will attempt to compete with the latest crop of notebooks powered by Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system, sources for The Wall Street Journal have said. It’s unclear when the notebook will be available, or which company it’ll be made by — but it seems Google has plenty of work to do before they start hitting store shelves.
