I spend most of my day writing about Android, so I’m always being asked by friends, family, and readers what apps and games I recommend. With that in mind, and to save myself from repeating it over and over again, I thought I’d put together a monthly roundup of the apps I’m using.
These won’t necessarily be brand new apps, but they will be apps I’ve recently discovered that you may not have stumbled across yet. February’s list includes an awesome email client called CloudMagic, a hugely frustrating yet immensely fun game, a third-party KitKat launcher, and more.
Microsoft’s search for a new CEO is over. Satya Nadella, who was formerly the executive vice president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, will replace Steve Ballmer immediately, the company said today.
Geeksphone, the Spanish smartphone startup behind the world’s first Firefox OS smartphones, has revealed more about its up-coming Revolution handset ahead of its February 14 launch.
Of course, its main selling point is its ability to dual-boot both Android and Firefox OS, but the handset also offers a 4.7-inch qHD display, an Intel Atom processor, and an 8-megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p video.
Android hasn’t always been one of the prettiest mobile platforms, but thanks to the design changes Google has made in recent years, it is now. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for some third-party Android apps.
Take Instagram, for example. It still looks like an exact port of Instagram’s iOS app from 2012, and it doesn’t make any efforts to follow Google’s “Holo” design guidelines for the more recent versions of Android. If it did, it could look pretty fantastic — as these fan-made mockups demonstrate.
