All is fair in love, war, and smartphone launch dates!

According to a new report, Samsung is rushing ahead with its Samsung Galaxy F smartphone in order to release it at the same time as Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 6, which is set to debut this September.

The Galaxy F — which will be the premium model of Samsung’s flagship Android phone — will feature major improvements in screen resolution, processing speed and the camera, with 1440 x 2560 QHD resolution on its 5.3-inch screen, a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor under the hood, and a 16MP rear-facing camera with OIS.

Theme Showcase, the powerful customization engine that’s baked into CyanogenMod, will soon be available from Google Play. Its release will allow those who don’t use CyanogenMod custom ROMs to take advantage of its theming features, such as the ability to apply different fonts, icons, wallpapers, and even boot logos.

Samsung is already working to redefine high-definition tablets and put a 4K display in your rucksack. The South Korean company has this week been showing off a new tablet prototype with a super sharp 12-inch screen that’s enough to make a 1080p movie look like a VHS.

Google is in the process of developing and testing a new feature for Glass, the world’s most advanced piece of wearable technology. The recently developed experimental functionality is currently being rolled out to all Explorers via an OTA software update, once installed users will be able to view incoming notifications by simply glancing at the screen, instead of having to nod their head or tap  the touchpad whenever the traditional notification chime is heard.

iOS-8

With iOS 8, Apple is bringing a multitude of exciting new features to iPhone and iPad. In some cases, Cupertino is playing catch-up as it tries to match what’s currently available in KitKat; in others, Apple’s next-generation mobile operating system is about to blast past the latest version of Android.

Android and iOS will secure a staggering 95 percent of smartphone market share between them in 2014, according to the latest research from IDC. While it’s strictly a two-horse race, Google’s platform is currently far out in front when it comes to number of users, with Android’s market share expected to reach 80.2 percent by the end of the year.

Google has a new Android update up its sleeve that will be announced this summer, but while Apple posts impressive upgrade percentages, Android fragmentation typically slows deployment of Google’s latest, greatest mobile OS.
