Samsung-vs-Apple

Everyone knows that the Apple vs. Samsung patent war has been raging for what seems like forever, but would you be any the wiser to hear that Samsung is invoking “Alice” to try and beat two Apple patents?

The patents in question are Apple’s “slide-to-unlock” patent, which describes swiping your smartphone’s home screen to unlock it — and “universal search,” which refers to a universal interface for retrieving information in a computer system.

In May, a jury found Samsung to be guilty of infringing on the first patent, but let it off the hook for the second.

But while Apple was only awarded an underwhelming $119.6 million (compared to the $1 billion it was awarded from Samsung in 2012) Samsung lawyers think they’ve come up with a way to invalidate the whole lawsuit: by taking advantage of a recent legal precedent called Alice v. CLS Bank.

Last week, Google rolled out an update for the Google Search app that brought with it the “OK Google” hotword detection feature to any screen. However, since the feature is enabled from the server side, it has not yet shown up for majority of the users yet.

While a method to enable this feature is available for rooted users, non-root users have been out of luck until now. Thanks to a simple tip discovered by a Reddit user though, even non-root users can instantly get the “OK Google” hotword detection on their Android device.

Nova Launcher, one of the most popular launchers on the Play Store, has received a hefty update today bringing many of the new goodies introduced by Google in Android L to all other Android devices.

Last week at its I/O conference in San Francisco, Google announced Android L — which it pegs as the biggest update to the OS ever. Yes, even bigger than Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, with which Google finally started taking design and UI performance seriously.

In its 3 hour keynote, Google explained all the new features that Android L packs including Project Volta, a new Material Design, a faster and more efficient runtime and more. However, even apart from the above changes, Android L includes a lot of new goodies, which Google did not mention at its keynote, probably due to the lack of time.

Worry not though, as we list down five such features below, which will greatly benefit the end users once Android L lands on devices later this year.
