Google announced Android 4.4 KitKat on Tuesday, and it has become tradition for the company to erect a new statue on the lawn of its Mountain View headquarters with every major Android release. So we weren’t surprised to see the search giant upload a video of the statue’s unveiling to YouTube.

However, we were surprised to see what looks like Google’s next-generation Nexus smartphone towards the end of the video.

Alcatel-One-Touch-Hero

Alcatel has today announced the One Touch Hero, a 6-inch phablet with some really nifty features. It has a 1080p display and other high-end internals, plus an intelligent stylus like the Samsung Galaxy Note. But its special feature is its special covers, one of which features an E Ink display that will let you read books and more without using the phone’s power-sapping full HD display.

Last week, a bunch of hands-on photo’s taken with Sony’s much-anticipated flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1, were posted on the internet. And now, a leaked press render and official press release has surfaced on an Xperia-orientated website, showing the upcoming handset in all its glory, as well as confirming many of the expected specifications, just one day before the device’s official announcement.

Google’s head of Android and Chrome, Sundar Pichai, has just confirmed that the next delicious version of Android won’t be just any old generic desert, but will instead be called Android 4.4 KitKat.

Along with the announcement of the new name Pichai told his Google+ followers that he just got back from a trip to Asia to visit device partners, and that Android has now passed over 1 Billion device activations:
