The cable you get with Nexus 5X probably won’t fit your PC

If you plan on plugging the new Nexus 5X into your Mac or PC to transfer music, movies, and photos to it, then you’re going to have to invest in a new cable. The one that comes bundled with the device probably won’t work with your computer — or existing chargers.

Nexus 5X is one of the first Android devices to embrace USB-C technology, and it goes all-out; the cable that comes with it is a USB-C to USB-C cable that only plugs into USB-C ports. That means the standard USB ports in your PC and existing charging adapters aren’t compatible.

It’s not a major issue — you can buy a USB-C to USB-A cable relatively cheaply online — but it seems it would have made more sense for Google to bundle a USB-C to USB-A cable that’s compatible with pretty much everything as standard.

That’s exactly what OnePlus did with the OnePlus 2, while Google’s more expensive Nexus 6P comes with both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cable in its box.

Google sells its own USB-C to USB-A cables on the Google Store for $13 apiece, or you can find third-party options on Amazon for under $10.
