Samsung reminds iPhone users they can’t customize iOS
If it doesn’t look like your phone, it’s not your phone… apparently.
That’s the tagline for a new Samsung ad that hopes to remind iPhone users they can’t customize iOS, and should therefore choose a Galaxy smartphone instead.
Samsung has already mocked the iPhone for its lack of wireless charging — which is built into its latest Galaxies — with another ad that plays on Apple’s most recent “If it’s not an iPhone, it’s not an iPhone” marketing campaign.
Now, less than a week later, the South Korean company has another 30-second clip that takes a more subtle swipe at the lack of customization options users get with iOS.
“Sure you can change your background, but why stop there?” Samsung asks, before insisting you should also be able to personalize the way your apps look, and add helpful widgets to your home screen for things like Google Search, your calendar, and world clocks.
Samsung also shows off the new theme engine baked into its latest TouchWiz software, which lets users apply a system-wide skin that changes the appearance of app icons, menus, and other user interface elements in just a tap.
I have to admit I do agree with Samsung on this one. I do think iOS could be more customizable, and I’ve long been pleading with Apple to add widgets. Not Notification Center widgets you forget about and barely use, either — proper home screen widgets.
