Google’s new Android Wear ad shows off one thing you don’t get with Apple Watch

Shortly before Apple kicked off its Spring Forward event yesterday, Google released its latest Android Wear ad, which showcases the one thing you won’t get with the upcoming Apple Watch: choice.

As I mentioned in my Apple Watch vs. Android Wear comparison, Watch looks pretty much the same no matter which model you choose.

Whether you spend $349 on the Apple Watch Sport, $549 on the midrange Apple Watch, or a staggering $10,000 on the Apple Watch Edition, you get the same overall design with the same square face. But with Android Wear, that’s not the case.

There are numerous devices to choose from from different manufacturers, including Samsung, LG, Motorola, Asus, and more. Some have square faces. Some have round faces. Some are made of plastic. Some are made of metal.

In its short, 17-second TV ad entitled “Wear what you want,” Google highlights this advantage and reminds us that no matter what our style, Android Wear has a watch to suit it.

Of course, the only problem is, Android Wear won’t work with an iPhone, so it isn’t exactly a plausible alternative for Apple’s 700 million smartwatch users. At least not yet.
