Remember when reports from South Korea claimed Samsung was developing new fitness trackers with Under Armour? Well, it seems HTC got there first. The Taiwanese company today announced plans to launch “a series of products” that will work alongside UA Record, Under Armour’s own fitness tracking platform.

“By joining forces with Under Armour, one of today’s most exciting and ambitious leaders in empowering athletes, we are taking the first step on this journey and will provide consumers with a range of connected health and fitness products and services that no other brand can match,” HTC said in its announcement today.

We have been awaiting HTC’s first wearable for many months. The company got fans excited last year when it confirmed plans to launch a smartwatch before the end of 2014, only to then tell us in October that device was being placed on hold so that it could spend more time getting it “right.

It’s unclear whether that particular device is still in the pipeline, or whether it has been postponed indefinitely in favor of the new fitness trackers it is working to make with Under Armour. HTC hasn’t revealed exactly what it has planned for us; we could see a Fitbit competitor focused solely on fitness tracking, or a Gear Fit competitor that will offer smartwatch functions as well.

Unfortunately, HTC did not confirm exactly how many products could be on the way, either — just that we can expect them “at a later date.”
