At IFA 2014 in Berlin today, Sony added two new smartphones to its flagship Xperia family in the form of the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact. Both sport stunning designs with aluminum frames sandwiched between glossy glass panels, as well as speedy Snapdragon 801 processors, HD displays, and high-end cameras.

Sony is one of a small but growing number of smartphone manufacturers that really prioritizes design, and that’s clear yet again with its latest offerings. They’re slim and slender devices that combine premium materials with cutting-edge specifications, as well as features like dust- and water-resistance, and PS4 Remote Play.

The Xperia Z3 is Sony’s true top-of-the-line device. It delivers a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, and up to 32GB of internal storage. It also has a microSD card slot, a 3,100mAh battery, and Android 4.4 KitKat with Sony’s latest user interface.

Sony again attempts to beat its rivals in the camera department with a 20-megapixel rear-facing Exmor RS sensor that features a 25mm Sony G lens, and a BIONZ processor chip that promises better photos in low light, and 4K video recording.

The Z3 Compact looks a lot like the regular Xperia Z3, but as its name suggests, its a shrunken down version, with a 4.6-inch 720p display as opposed to the Z3’s 1080p panel. It’s certainly not a midrange device, however; it has exactly the same processor, the same 20-megapixel camera, and the same software.

Both devices come with Sony’s new Remote Play feature, which is also available on the new Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and lets you play PS4 games remotely using a PS4 controller — and they’re available in a number of vibrant colors.
