Ever since leaked photos confirmed the “All New HTC One” will have two rear-facing cameras, we’ve been wondering how exactly they’ll be put to use, and what kind of benefits they might bring to our photos.

According to a magazine promotion from Australian carrier Telstra, the “Duo Camera” will help you capture professional photos with more depth, alter focus after the image has been shot, and add 3D effects.

“Beautifully designed, The All New HTC One (M8) has an all metal body and features a brilliant 5″ full HD scratch resistant screen,” the leaked advert reads. “It delivers unparalleled sound quality that is clear, balanced and powerful. And with HTC Duo Camera, you’ll capture professional photos with more depth.”

“Create vivid images even in low light and professionally edit memories after you’ve taken the shot. Choose where to focus, highlight what you love, soften backgrounds and add 3D effects.”

Samsung’s new Galaxy S5 has some nifty features that allow you to alter a photo’s focus after it’s been taken, and create a shallow depth of field like that you get with a DSLR. And it seems the new HTC One will offer much of the same — possibly with better results thanks to its second camera sensor.

It won’t be the first HTC smartphone with two rear-facing cameras; the Evo 3D also had two 5-megapixel sensors that allowed users to take stereoscopic 3D images. Given Telstra’s mention of “3D effects,” the new HTC One may allow for something similar — though we don’t expect it to have a 3D display, so you’ll likely need a 3D TV to enjoy them.

There’s still a lot to learn about the new HTC One’s Duo Camera, but we certainly have a better understanding of it thanks to this ad — which confirms the “All New HTC One” name, and the introduction of HTC’s new Sense 6 user interface.
