Now that EE is already providing 4G LTE services in the U.K., and Vodafone and O2 are scheduled to launch their own 4G networks at the end of this month, Three was the only major carrier yet to announce its rollout plans.

But the company has today confirmed that it is on track to launch 4G during the fourth quarter of this year, and that it will come at no extra cost to consumers.

Three may be last to show its hand when it comes to 4G, but that certainly doesn’t mean it will miss out — especially when it’s promising to offer 4G services for the same price as 3G. It’s the only U.K. carrier to offer this, with EE, O2, and Vodafone all charging a premium for faster speeds.

What’s more, those who already have a 4G smartphone and are in a 4G area on Three will see their speeds increase automatically.

“We’re on track to launch in Q4 and we will offer 4G at no extra charge,” a Three spokesman told Cult of Android.

“When we switch on our 4G network, well over a million of our customers will already have a 4G device, so they will get automatic and hassle-free access in 4G areas without the need to change plans or SIM cards. Everyone on Three with a 4G device will be able to enjoy our 4G services as we roll out the network across the country to add capacity to what is already the UK’s fastest 3G network.”

Three still doesn’t have a specific date for its 4G rollout, then, but if you’re looking to get faster speeds without paying a premium, it’ll be well worth the wait.
