O2 Reveals 4G Price Plans Ahead Of August 29 Launch

O2-4G-coming

O2 has today confirmed the price of its 4G price plans ahead of their rollout next Thursday, August 29. The carrier’s SIM-only plans will start from £26 ($40) per month, while those that are tied to a 4G handset start from £32 ($49) per month. All of O2’s 4G plans will also come bundled with free music, sport, and game content.

O2’s 4G plans come with a minimum 1GB of data as standard, but you can increase that if you’re willing to pay more.

For a 5GB SIM-only plan, it’s £31 ($48), while the maximum 8GB allowance will cost you £36 ($56) per month. If you want these plans with a handset, prices vary depending on which device you go for.

“Customers who also want to choose a new device have a range of options through O2 Refresh, which uniquely gives O2 customers the flexibility to get the latest device whenever they want,” the company explains.

“Airtime plans for O2 Refresh start from £22 a month for 1GB of data, and go up to £37 for 8GB. Customers have the flexibility to choose a 4G device at a price per month that suits them. The monthly device payment will range from £10 to £25, dependent on how a customer chooses to pay for one of over 10 4G-ready devices in O2’s range.”

It’s also worth noting that these data allowances are part of an introductory offer, and they’ll be reduced to from 5GB to 3GB and from 8GB to 5GB on October 31.

O2 is also throwing some free content into its 4G price plans, including one-year subscriptions to O2 Tracks, free access to Priority Sports, and free online gaming. These hope to entice customers to choose O2 over its rivals when they upgrade to a 4G plan.

Vodafone has announced that it will also be launching its own 4G network on August 29, while EE has been providing the U.K. with 4G services since last year. Three is the only major carrier in the U.K. yet to announce its launch plans, but it has confirmed that when 4G is available, it will not be charging any extra for it.
