HTC has confirmed that the HTC One Developer Edition handset will be available to purchase on April 19 in the United States, priced at $649. Unlike the regular model, this one comes with an unlocked bootloader and SIM, in addition to open APIs. It also offers 64GB of storage as standard.

HTC announced the One Developer Edition on March 13, and although the company did not confirm its release date, many assumed the handset would launch alongside the regular One device in the U.S.

But a spokesman for the Taiwanese company confirmed the launch date to Android and Me during Facebook’s HTC First announcement on Thursday, adding that pre-orders will begin “in the coming days.”

The Developer Edition is almost identical to the regular HTC One — it has all the same internal specifications — only there are no restrictions. You can use any SIM card you like inside it — providing your carrier’s network is supported, of course — and install custom ROMs and other tweaks that would be much more difficult to run on a regular handset.

Here’s a list of its specifications:

  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 5.0
  • 4.7-inch 1080p display
  • 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 64GB of internal storage
  • Front-facing stereo speakers
  • HSPA/WCDMA, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, and LTE connectivity
  • UltraPixel rear-facing camera
  • 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera
  • Open APIs for Bluetooth Low Energy, Infrared, and more
  • Unlocked SIM and bootloader

As soon as pre-orders for the One Developer Edition go live, we’ll let you know.
