Why You Should Ignore The Latest ‘Leaked’ Galaxy S IV Renders

There are a number of images making their way around the web this morning that supposedly depict the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S IV. Some believe them to be genuine Samsung renders that have been leaked ahead of the handset’s grand unveiling — but they’re not.

In fact, they’re nothing more than retailer mockups that are being used to promote the device while the official shots are unavailable.

The images gained a lot of attention when they were tweeted by @evleaks, a trusted source for Android smartphone information, which frequently publishes leaked press shots and specifications for upcoming devices. But its latest images — seen above and below — aren’t leaked press shots.

Instead, they’re placeholders created by Expansys, a British consumer electronics retailer, which confirmed on Twitter that they are not real Galaxy S IV images.

It’s still interesting that Expansys would list the handset’s specifications before it’s been announced, however. It’s not accepting pre-orders yet, but it is allowing customers to register their interest for a device that hasn’t even been confirmed.

According to the website, we can expect the Galaxy S IV to have a 5-inch Super AMOLED displau, an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, 2GB of RAM, up to 64GB of internal storage, and a 13-megapixel camera with autofocus and an LED flash.

Those specifications certainly sound accurate, but it’s not often they’re published by retailers until they’re confirmed.

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S IV at an event in New York City on March 14. Until then, we’d suggest you take all “leaked” renders with a hefty pinch of salt.
