Sony’s next Xperia Z refresh will be much more significant than the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3+, according to a new report. In addition to Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 820 processor, the device is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and a fingerprint scanner.

Technodify reports that the Xperia Z5 will arrive “sometime in September,” and could well be the true flagship Sony fans have been waiting for; rather than a somewhat disappointing refresh of a previous model — like the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3+.

Expected specifications include the Snapdragon 820 processor, which will be faster, and is likely to use the latest 14-nanometer manufacturing process that will make it more power efficient and help eliminate some of the overheating issues that are plaguing the Snapdragon 810.

The chipset will reportedly be accompanied by 4GB of RAM, a fingerprint scanner, and a massive 4,500mAh battery.

“On the imaging front, the new Sony Xperia Z5 is expected to feature the latest Sony Exmor RS IMX230 based CMOS sensor with 4K video recording support, HDR and 21 million pixels,” adds Technodify. “That is what we currently know about this smartphone.”

This may not be the only Xperia Z5 handset, either, with claims that Sony will also deliver an Xperia Z5 Compact, and an Xperia Z5 Ultra.

This is all speculation for now, however, so it’s probably best you don’t get too excited — but as far as specifications are confirmed, these certainly sound pretty plausible for a next-generation flagship.
