Motorola said shortly after unveiling the Moto X that the handset wouldn’t be coming to Europe — but it seems the company may be changing its mind following the handset’s successful start in the United States.

At a launch event for the new Moto G, Marcus Frost, Motorola’s Senior Marketing Director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) told TechRadar that “the reception of Moto X has been fantastic,” and that this could lead to launches in other markets — namely Europe.

“We’re continuously perusing opportunities in the EMEA region,” he added, “so really watch this space.”

If that wasn’t enough for you, Motorola’s Vice President for EMEA, Magnus Ahlqvist, added: “We are serious about Europe and we want to bring strong propositions to the market.”

This doesn’t confirm the Moto X will ever make its way across the Atlantic, of course, but Motorola is clearly exploring the opportunity. And given that the company seemed set against the idea initially, this is a very positive sign for those who were hoping to grab the Moto X.

While the handset looks a lot like the new Moto G, it actually has better specifications under its hood. There’s a slightly larger 4.7-inch 720p display, for a start — plus a faster 1.7GHz processor, double the RAM at 2GB, and better cameras, with a 10-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front.

The Moto X is also more customizable, and it has some really unique software features, including Touchless Control, Active Display, and Quick Capture.
