The new Galaxy S4 is the first Samsung smartphone to boast Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass 3, which promises to be up to three times as scratch resistant as its predecessor. And according to its first scratch test, it does not disappoint — the Galaxy S4’s display is almost impossible to scratch.

As you’ll see in the four-minute clip below, the Galaxy S4 will withstand sharp knives, keys, and coins without picking up a single blemish on its gorgeous display. That means if you’re slipping it into your pocket with door keys and loose change, you shouldn’t have to worry about it getting damaged.

Isn’t it painful watching a new Galaxy S4 go through all that?

Admittedly the guy carrying out this test could have put a lot more effort into it, however; he’s clearly not using too much force, particularly with the knives. But nevertheless, it proves the Galaxy S4’s Gorilla Glass display is super tough, and that it won’t be damaged easily through everyday use.

You will have to watch the back and sides of the device, however, which are plastic and are much more likely to sustain scratches, scuffs, and cracks if you’re not careful. We’d always recommend picking up a good case with a new smartphone — particularly one that’s this expensive.
