Droid Xyboard 10.1

Verizon’s Droid Xyboard owners find themselves in a very interesting situation after the carrier announced their cellular devices will be the only devices to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, whilst their Wi-Fi counterparts will remain on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Wi-Fi devices generally surpass their cellular twins on a regular basis when it comes to software updates. So what we’re seeing today is pretty unusual.

Verizon Wireless has been hard at work rolling out LTE on its network over the past three years or so, but the company announced today that the nationwide 4G LTE rollout is ‘substantially complete.’

With support for over 500 LTE markets, Verizon’s 4G LTE network now covers 95% of the U.S. population. Verizon Wireless CTO Nicola Palmer says the company isn’t totally done just yet. As reported by PC Mag, Palmer says the company plans to add more services to LTE over the next few years and open new markets:

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Developer Edition that runs on Verizon is now available directly from Samsung for $649.99. The Developer Edition of the S4 comes with an unlockable bootloader, meaning that you will have an open gateway into the system, which is great should hacking, rooting and using custom ROM’s be your thing.
