Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Coming To Verizon Droid Xyboard

Droid Xyboard 10.1

Verizon’s Droid Xyboard owners find themselves in a very interesting situation after the carrier announced their cellular devices will be the only devices to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, whilst their Wi-Fi counterparts will remain on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Wi-Fi devices generally surpass their cellular twins on a regular basis when it comes to software updates. So what we’re seeing today is pretty unusual.

Motorola recently updated its upgrade page for Verizon’s Xyboard 8.2 & 10.1, stating that they would each receive an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. All other Xyboard versions, including the Wi-Fi only variant, will stay on 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

As of yet we have no specific date for Jelly Bean’s touch down on Verizon’s Xyboard’s, but we do know that it will be coming to them sometime before the end of summer.

The Droid Xyboard 8.2 & 10.1 packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and 4G LTE capabilities. All-in-all it’s certainly not a high-end Android tablet, but it’s a pretty affordable mid-range device.

Of course, there is always the possibility that Motorola could change its mind and bring Android 4.1 to the WiFi Xyboards’, but at this point in time I wouldn’t count on it.
