Xperia-Z-Ultra-Android-4-4-2

I wrote about some of the major flaws affecting the Google Play Edition Sony Xperia Z Ultra on Monday, but fortunately, these are being fixed with a new Android 4.4.2 update rolling out today. The release weighs in at just over 441MB, and it comes with build number KOT49H.

Fashionably late as usual, Verizon has at last posted the official update documents for a much-anticipated upcoming upgrade for HTC’s flagship smartphone of 2013, the One. This announcement comes two months after all the other major carriers in the United States started rolling out Android 4.3 for the handset and reveals that Big Red is now preparing to do the same.

Sony promised its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z Ultra would arrive this month, and today it is delivering on that promise. The new software — complete with everything that’s new in Android 4.3 and much-improved Sony apps — is rolling out “right about now.”

LG-Optimus-G

LG insists it has not released an Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Optimus G, despite an announcement on the official LG Estonia Facebook page that said the software was on its way.

“Mistakenly, there has been information spreading via LG Electronics Estonia Facebook page that LG Optimus G (E975) will receive an Android 4.4 KitKat update in Estonia,” LG told Cult of Android. “We confirm that it is not so and sincerely apologize for any given false or ambiguous information.”

No App Ops Google

When Google started rolling out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to the Nexus 4 back in July, some users stumbled upon a very handy privacy feature, called “App Ops”, hidden in the Developer’s section of the built-in settings application, which enabled them to “install apps while preventing the app from collecting sensitive data like the user’s location or address book” — which I am pretty sure we can all agree is a rather useful security function to have on our devices.
