Yesterday, HTC U.K. tweeted a post bringing to our attention the Desire 816, with its 13MP rear-facing camera, it 5.5-inch HD screen and its dual-frontal speakers, evidently confirming that the handset will, indeed, be heading to the United Kingdom at some point in the not-too-distant future.

It’s going to be a good morning for readers in the U.K. who have a Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3, because Samsung has finally starting rolling out its much-anticipated Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade. This is the same update that arrived in Germany and other parts of Europe weeks ago, and it brings a number of tasty TouchWiz improvements.

Earlier today, Jason Mackenzie, the President of HTC America, officially revealed on Twitter that HTC’s flagship smartphone will not meet its self-imposed 90-day deadline for its much-anticipated Android 4.4 KitKat update to touch down in the U.S. and Canada. However, according to Mackenize, it shouldn’t take more than a couple of weeks for the HTC One updates to be complete.

Samsung unveiled its former flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4, back in March, 2013, and a month after its announcement the handset was available in the U.K. from several retailers for £599.99. Sony unveiled the Xperia Z1 Compact, which is a scaled-down variant of its current flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1, at the Consumer Electronics Show two weeks ago in Las Vegas, and although we can’t actually get our hands on the device just yet here in the United Kingdom, the U.K.-based online retailer, Clove Technology, slashed £30 off the Z1 Compact’s original pre-order price today — meaning you’ll be able to grab Sony’s latest Android smartphone for £399.
