CES will bring out all the big players in the mobile processor game, each ready to flaunt the power, speed, and overall performance of their mobile processing chips. We’re going to give you a look at a few of the major players and what they plan to bring to the CES table. This year’s buzz word should be “quad-core,” and we’re hoping to see plenty of it (hopefully on phones).

Today Qualcomm announced its plans to launch the Snapdragon GameCommand App on opening day at CES. The Snapdragon GameCommand app is similar to the Tegra Zone, which will enable users to easily access over 100 Snapdragon™ GamePack featured games. I’ve never really been a fan of the whole processor specific gaming model, but as long as it’s a reality, we mine as well have an easy way to find the games.

Japanese mobile operator NTT DOCOMO announced its plans to join forces with the fab five — Samsung, Panasonic, Fujitsu Limited, Fujitsu Semiconductor and NEC — to put an end to Qualcomm’s long held reign of mobile processing chip domination. Together they plan on developing “feature-rich, small-size, low-power-consumption semiconductor products equipped with modem functionality,” focusing on LTE and LTE-Advanced mobile communication standards. As long as all parties agree on the details, this “Semiconductor Six” (as I’m calling them) should be established and ready to powerhouse the mobile industry by the mid-January.
