Teardown specialists iFixit have published a new tablet repairability guide that quickly tells you how difficult it’s going to be to mend your broken Android, iOS, or Windows 8 slate. The guide features 18 popular tablets, which have been given a repairability score between one and ten. The higher the score, the easier they are to repair.

Unsurprisingly, Apple’s iPads are some of the hardest tablets to fix, second only to the Microsoft Surface Pro — the only tablet with a score of one. Amazon’s Kindle Fire’s, on the other hand, are relatively easy to repair, as are Dell’s devices.

The Kindle Fire HD has received the ritualistic iFixit teardown, exposing all of its innards as well as giving us an idea of what to expect should it need to be fixed. Despite having the LCD fused to the front glass and plastic frame, the Kindle Fire HD scored reasonably well on iFixit’s repairability scale. In fact, the Kindle Fire HD score a 7 out of 10, the same score handed down to the Nexus 7 and only 1 point below the original Kindle Fire.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 made its debut last week and has already found its innards spread across a table for all to see. That’s right, I’m talking about the customary iFixit teardown. That’s when a member of the iFixit team dissects a device to expose its parts and determine its level of repairability. You’ll be happy to know the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 scored an 8 out of 10 for ease of repair, completely shaming Apple’s new iPad, which barely scored a 2.
