Samsung has applied for a trademark on the name “Gear S” for what could be the recently-rumored Gear Solo, which is presumed to be a standalone, Tizen-powered variant of the Gear 2 with compatibility for a SIM card, SMS and cellular connectivity (4G LTE).

The upcoming Moto 360 is expected to get a built-in ambient light sensor, but neither the LG G Watch or the Samsung Gear Live have one. That means that they cannot control their own brightness automatically depending on the environment — but there is a third-party app that can help.

Motorola has begun rolling out its Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for the Verizon Moto X and Moto G. The release contains the latest security fixes from Google — as well improvements to camera image quality and the ability to pause video recordings. It will almost certainly be the last these handsets get before Android L.

Back in May, LG announced five new colorways for its flagship smartphone, the G3 –Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold, Moon Violet, and Burgundy Red. Two months on and both the violet and red options are still not available in the United States. This has left some consumers who wanted to bag themselves either of these two options scratching their heads and searching for answers. Thankfully, LG has today spoken out and provided us with an update on the subject.

Samsung-vs-Apple

Apple filed a motion with the U.S. Court of Appeals yesterday, dropping its cross-appeal of Judge Lucy Koh’s verdict in its lawsuit against Samsung, and officially ending Apple’s pursuit of a product ban for the rival company.
