Samsung unleashes Galaxy Note 10 to take on iPhone

Samsung unveiled its latest answer to the iPhone today during an event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The new Galaxy Note 10 is undoubtedly one of the prettiest smartphones Samsung has ever come out with, thanks to its giant display with a pinhole cutout for the camera. This year’s Note 10 lineup comes in two different varieties. The Note 10 comes with a 6.3-inch display, while the monstrous Note 10 Plus packs a 6.8-inch display. But screen sizes aren’t the only thing that sets them apart.

Instead of thinking of the Note 10 as a normal giant phone, its more like the regular Note crammed down into the size of the Galaxy S10. Starting at $949, the Note 10 comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The Note 10 Plus starts at $1,099 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. There’s also a Note 10 5G version in the works that will only be available on Verizon.

One of the standout features of the Note 10 is its giant, bezel-free screen with a small, pinhole cutout up top for the selfie camera. It has a gorgeous AMOLED display with a fingerprint sensor behind it. The Note 10 has the most narrow screen ever on a Note, while the Note 10 Plus has the biggest display ever on a Note.

On the back of the Note 10, you’ll find three cameras. A wide-angle camera that snaps 16MP photos. Then there’s a 12MP telephoto camera and the main camera that is also 12MP but has an f/1.5 aperture.

The Note 10 is missing one notable feature: a headphone jack. After making fun of iPhone for ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack, the Note 10 is copying the move. Samsung also ditched the Bixby button. Like all other Notes before it, though, the Note 10 still supports Samsung’s S Pen.

Both Note sizes got a battery upgrade. Note 10 packs a 3,500mAh battery and the Note 10 Plus has a 4,300mAh battery. They also offer two-way charging, a feature coming to the iPhone this year.

Stores will start selling the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus on August 23, with preorders available starting today.
