SEGA classic Crazy Taxi is now free to play on mobile

SEGA arcade hit Crazy Taxi is now free to play on Android and iOS.

The game has also been updated to support 64-bit processors, which means it will continue to be playable after Apple kills 32-bit apps with iOS 11 later this year.

Originally launched in the Dreamcast way back in 1999, Crazy Taxi is a SEGA favorite. It’s so popular that it has been ported to almost every platform out there since then, including PC, more modern consoles, and Android and iOS.

When the game first landed on mobile in late 2012, it was priced at $4.99. Now SEGA has ditched that price tag and updated the game for 64-bit processors to make it more accessible — but as you might have guessed, it’s not all good news.

Crazy Taxi is now ad-supported, which means you’ll see popups when you first load the game. For now, it seems that’s all there is, but you can be sure SEGA is planning to maximize its revenues from the game by adding more in later.

We’re hoping that won’t be the case, but either way, Crazy Taxi is still a shed-load of fun. If you’ve never gotten around to playing it, or you never picked it up on mobile, now is your chance to relive this arcade classic for free.

You can download Crazy Taxi from the App Store and Google Play.
