LG today unveiled a second edition of its Watch Urbane smartwatch, which finally frees Android Wear from your smartphone.

Thanks to its built-in 4G and 3G connectivity, the new Watch Urbane makes calls and continues to receive notifications even when you leave your phone behind.

Watch Urbane 2nd Edition isn’t the first smartwatch with a data connection; Samsung has launched a number of wearables capable of connecting to 3G networks, and its new Gear S2which goes on sale in the U.S. tomorrow — will be available in a cellular option.

What makes Watch Urbane 2nd Edition special, however, is that it is the first Android Wear watch with this capability. Even if you leave your phone at home when you head out to work, then, you’ll continue to receive notifications and calls on your Watch Urbane.

You will also be able to use Wear apps that require an Internet connection.

Watch Urbane 2nd Edition also has a larger battery — 570mAh up from 410mAh — to accommodate that cellular connectivity, which means it’s thicker at 14.2mm (up from 10.9mm). It also has a sharper 480×480 display with 348 pixels-per-inch, and 768MB of RAM (up from 512MB).

Watch Urbane is compatible with both Android and iOS, and it will be available first in the U.S. and South Korea. LG promises its price tag and release date will be confirmed “at a later date.”
