It seems the rumored HTC One M8 Eye could be one of a number of devices in an all-new HTC Eye family. A leaked image has today given us our first glimpse at the new Desire Eye, a Desire 820 lookalike with a giant 13-megapixel selfie camera and front-facing dual LED flash.

The image, published by the ever-reliable @Upleaks on Twitter, indicates the Desire Eye will have a plastic form factor and will be available in a number of bright colors. Despite being part of HTC’s midrange handset lineup, it will reportedly have some impressive specifications — including a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display, and a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor.

Not only will the Desire Eye have a 13-megapixel camera on its front, but the same on its back as well. Other internals are said to include 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 2,400mAh battery. @Upleaks says the device will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat and HTC’s most recent Sense 6 user interface.

It isn’t just the giant selfie camera that differentiates the Desire Eye from other Desire handsets, then. It might be made of plastic rather than aluminum, but this device has all the ingredients necessary to compete with today’s flagships. Of course, HTC needs to make it official first, and there’s no guarantee that will happen.
