Samsung will unveil its next-generation Galaxy Note on September 3, just days before IFA 2014 kicks off in Berlin, according to sources familiar with the South Korean company’s plans. Invitations are expected to go out in late August, and it’s an event phablet fans will want to keep a close eye on.

The Galaxy Note is the most successful super-sized smartphone series to date, and it’s likely the Galaxy Note 4 will make it an even bigger brand. The device is expected to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor, bringing all-new internals, new software, and new features.

Like the Galaxy S5, it will undoubtedly offer a fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor — but that’s where the similarities will end. The Note 4 is expected to get a bigger and better 5.7-inch display with a 2K (1440×2560) resolution, Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization.

We may have already gotten a glimpse at how good that camera may be, thanks to a recent hands-on video featuring a leaked Galaxy S5 Active. The sensor itself will be similar to that packed into the Galaxy S5, but of course, the Galaxy S5 does not offer optical image stabilization.

“Insider” sources speaking to PhoneArena say Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 4 at an Unpacked event on September 3. It’s hard to confirm these claims at this time, but given the Galaxy Note 3 will be a year old on September 25, a September announcement certainly seems likely.
