Instagram For Android Gets Simplified Design In Latest Update

Instagram-5-1-Android

Instagram today updated its Android app to introduce a long-awaited design refresh, with “simplified” visuals that match those made available to iOS users last September. The update also brings performance improvements that promise to make the app noticeably faster than before.

You won’t find any new features in this release, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth getting excited about. Instagram’s previous design on Android has been looking pretty long in the tooth for a while now, and we’ve been waiting patiently for it to take note of Google’s “Holo” design guidelines.

And now it does. The app looks almost identical to its iOS counterpart, which is cleaner, simpler, and a whole lot prettier than the old design.

“We’ve simplified our visuals throughout our app, making use of valuable screen space for small devices and feature phones and rearranging our design to keep buttons within easy reach as you navigate the app on a larger device,” Instagram says on its blog.

“It’s the same Instagram for Android you know and love—faster, cleaner and easier to use than ever.”

It doesn’t just look better, either — it’s also much faster. Profile screens now load twice as fast, and the overall size of the app has been cut in size.
