OnLive Desktop Now Available For Android Tablets – A PC Without A PC

Popular cloud-gaming service OnLive recently decided to expand its offerings to include cloud-computing. Last month they launched their OnLive Desktop service for the iPad which allowed users to access a copy of Windows 7 that included a variety of apps such as Microsoft Office via the cloud. Yesterday, OnLive brought that same functionality to Android tablets. Android users can now download OnLive Desktop for free in the Android Market.

The basic version of OnLive Desktop is free but there is also a plus version that costs $4.99/month. The free version provides a basic multi-touch copy of Windows with fully functional applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Reader, along with 2GB of cloud storage. The Plus version provides users with all the features of the free version plus cloud-accelerated Web browsing with Adobe Flash, access to 3rd party cloud storage (e.g., Dropbox), priority access to the OnLive Desktop service and more. OnLive also plans on offering a Desktop Pro, Enterprise, and collaborative service soon.

What separates OnLive Desktop from the likes of Splashtop or any other remote desktop service is that you do not need a PC of your own. OnLive Desktop does not access your PC but provides you with remote access to your own personal copy of Windows which is stored on their servers. Essentially providing those without a PC, a PC.
